In 1960 the first Kindergarten began operation. Using the Beginner Department facilities for weekday activities and hoping to strengthen Christian home life, the church appointed Mrs. R. E. Holiday Director and gave her training at Ridgecrest as well as training under Dr. Forsythe of Winthrop College in Nursery School Education. Mrs. Gene Sparks and Mrs. Charlie Allen were the assistant teachers that first year. Sixteen children enrolled. Mrs. Louise Burgess, Education Director, gave much guidance and Mrs. Jesse Lee, Church Secretary, lent her aid in those early beginnings. Always, Mr. Lovell, the pastor, guided and assisted as needed. Playground equipment and needed toys were donated and secured. Mr. Marion Altman made a fence for the playground area. Happy learning experiences and meaningful activities made that first Kindergarten a happy memory for children, teachers and parents.
The 2nd year Mrs. Richard Ray was assistant teacher. The third year Mrs. James Burnett and Mrs. Richard Allen helped. In 1963-64 there was a capacity enrollment of 25 children.
In 1964, under the capable leadership of Mrs. Jim Burnett, a four-year Junior Kindergarten was opened. They reached more than 25 (having some three-year-olds who came 3 days) in 1965-66. The assistant under Mrs. Burnett the first year of operation was Mrs. Thelbert Bellamy, and Mrs. S. J. Young was added to the staff in 1964 as assistant five-year teacher.
