Robert Guffey, Pastor

Pastor, friend, teacher, leader, husband, father, encourager, writer and (occasional!) guitar player —all of these describe our pastor, Bob Guffey. Bob and Angie joined the First Baptist Church Family in August 2006, after over seven years in ministry in Connecticut, and twelve years before that in Louisiana. He has, also, served churches in Texas and ministries in Haiti. Bob and Angie have two children and two grandchildren.

Bob works to combine the importance of biblical literacy and faith development with the everyday desire to communicate a faith that lives in the lives of real people in the real world. A native of Louisiana, Bob is a graduate of the New Orleans Baptist Thelogical Seminary (Master of Divinity) and the Candler School of Theology, Emory University (Doctor of Ministry), and has studied at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Columbia Presbyterian Seminary (Atlanta), too.

Rocky Taylor, Minister of Music & Associate Pastor
Rocky's life-long love of music overflows into his love to lead worship and to introduce others to a more intimate relationship with Christ through worship.  In addition to leading the 11:00 am worship service, Rocky directs the Chancel Choir, XYZ (Xtra Years of Zest) Choir, assists with the Young Musicians (4th,5th,6th Grade) Choir, plays and assists with the Chancel Ringers (5 octave handbells), and assists with Associate Pastoral duties.  Rocky is a graduate of Gardner-Webb University with a B.A. in Church Music and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Church Music degree. 

Rocky’s wife is Ellen, who teaches K-8th  grade music at St. Andrew Catholic School in Myrtle Beach and is also the Children’s Choir Coordinator at FBC, and they have two grown children, Robbie (Assistant Worship Leader & Middle School Pastor at Pawley’s Island Community Church), and Melody (Teacher at Seaside Elementary in Surfside Beach).

Tommy Rowe, Associate Minister of Contemporary Worship
Tommy (a.k.a. T. A. Rowe) plans and guides the 8:45 a.m. Contemporary Worship Service on Sundays. Born on a small farm in Georgetown County, Tommy grew up in Horry County, and graduated from Myrtle Beach High School, and the University of South Carolina, and the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity with Languages.

A professional musician and entertainer for 25 years, Tommy left the entertainment business in 1982 to become a Minister of Worship for the Lord. Since then, he has recorded five Christian praise and worship albums. Tommy writes, arranges and records music as given by the Holy Spirit and uses many types of music to convey the love and message of Jesus Christ, including hymns, gospel songs, spirituals, choruses and cutting-edge contemporary. Tommy came to First Baptist Church in 2002 to create and develop our contemporary worship ministries.

Tommy is married to his ministry partner, best friend and soul mate, Cynthia (Cindy) L. Rowe. They have four daughters and five grandchildren. Tommy and Cindy are both passionate about serving the Lord! They want to make God smile.
